Living Into Your Yes - are you?

What does it really mean to live into your yes?

An authentic yes is something the body knows before the mind can explain it. It can show up as a sense of openness, safety, or aliveness. But for many, this clarity has been interrupted—by conditioning, past experiences, by the subtle habit of overriding what we feel. It is tricky to learn when role models may have been scarce and formal education leaves these important life skills out.

Not surprisingly, many of us have learned through habit and a lack of knowing another way, to become very practiced at giving and much less familiar with receiving. When these two dynamics are out of balance, resentment can build, we can become weary without the nourishment possible through true receiving.

As Anaïs Nin wrote, “I was always ashamed to take. So I gave. It was not a virtue. It was a disguise”. This insightful quote indicates the vulnerability and shame in receiving. Noticing it, is the first step to changing it.

Living into your yes, learning to identify what we really want to receive, can be re-learnt. Sometimes we need some guides to show us the way back, willing friends to practice with and a supportive environment to learn in. Much of this learning can happen solo, too.

Wheel of Consent® workshops enable just that, the opportunity to practice noticing desire, cultivate valuing, trusting and communicating our impulses specifically in line with what we feel in our bodies.  This can be vulnerable, tenderising and empowering.

Receiving is indeed a practice that suggests we move more slowly, listen deeply, and grow to value our body’s natural responses and sensations. In this way we rebuild the trust it takes to receive more fully.

Some common questions related to receiving can be:

Can I stay present with what feels good?

Can I let this feeling in, and what supports that?

What if receiving wasn’t something to hide from, but something to practice?
What if your yes could become a place you live from?
